- Don't quote me on this.
- But it sounds like to me that the electron guns [red, blue, and green]
- which shoot light onto the screen display have gone wild.
- The electron guns are either now misaligned, or not shooting at the right
- time or right spots as they should.
- Another possible cause may be that your monitor cable is no good.
-
- Unless it's something really simple, I wouldn't try repairing
- a computer monitor of any type myself. This kind of work is generally
- best left to a computer technician.
-
- If you ever open up a TV or computer monitor, be very careful.
- The electricity stored inside the vacuum tube is strong enough to kill you.
- Yes! Even when it is completely turned off and unused for a while.
- You should use some kind of instrument to discharge the electricity in the
- vacuum tube before attempting to fix anything inside.
-
- I once tried fixing a non-working 1702 monitor my cousin gave me.
- No. I didn't get shocked or killed. Otherewise I wouldn't be here writing
- this article. ;-))
- However, I sware I'll never poke around inside my monitor again; maybe from
- my keyboard outside I would. ;-))
-
- In any event, I wasn't able to fix the 1702 and had to toss it away.
-
- At the time, I didn't know about the dangers of fixing the internals of a
- TV/computer monitor. I sware I will not try it again.
-
- I think you're much better off getting a used 1702/1902 C= monitor from
- someone else than to attempt any fixing, especially since a used one is
- pretty cheap to get ~ $40 - $60.
